DESIGN | INSPIRATION: Cherry Blossoms

While late March is technically the beginning of Spring, April is the beginning of blooming season for many flowers. In my cul-de-sac, I have several cherry blossom trees that start to reveal their beautiful white and pink colors.

By May and June, these beauties are in full glory providing plenty of texture, color and shape to the landscape. I marvel at these wonderful specimens each year and just enjoy their contribution to the environment.

As it turns out, the cherry blossom flower as we know it is part of the "Prunus" family of flowers of Japanese origin. In Japan, the cherry blossom is referred to "sakura". According to Wikipedia's page on Cherry Blossoms (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cherry_blossom), there are known to be over 200 varieties in Japan.

The National Cherry Blossom Festival runs from late March to April for approximately one month in Washington, DC. Get more information on this event and its activities at: http://www.nationalcherryblossomfestival.org

I loved the Cherry Blossoms image so much that I decided to work it in PhotoShop and turn it into a giftwrap paper!  Checkout my project tutorial on creating the Cherry Blossom GiftWrap Paper in Spoonflower.
